We’ve just won FOUR foodie awards!
We had a phone call from the Michelin Restaurants Guides two weeks ago to say that their inspectors had been in our Athlone and Gorey restaurants and were really impressed with the whole experience. If you have not yet heard of the Michelin Guides, they are the oldest restaurant and accommodation guides in the world. They are also the most widely consulted guides by travellers.
They dined in each restaurant seperately and then made an appointment to come back to the Athlone restaurant to inspect the premises. It was like a health inspection!! They checked the kitchens for cleanliness, checked underneath and inside all of the fridges, cookers and dishwashers. The final check was the customer and staff toilets. AND, we passed with flying colours!
So we will be included in the 2010 Michelin Guide. With any award, each restaurant is judged separately and by different judges so if for instance a judge thought one restaurant was not as good the other, he would not make the award.
This comes on the back of gaining a second prestigious Georgina Campbell Award for both Athlone and Gorey. That’s year 2 for Athlone and a first for Gorey. Earlier this year we also won the Bridgestone Best Restaurant Award again for Athlone and Gorey. That’s four Bridgestones for Athlone!! And just to stroke our little egos even more, Paolo Tullio’s ‘Taste of Ireland’ Awards included Athlone and Gorey in their Best Of category.
