We’ve won a Michelin!!!!
Well it’s not a Michelin Star but in the restaurant trade it’s the next best thing. The Michelin people are renowned throughout Europe for being fierce defenders of anonymous ratings for restaurants and hotels. The results of their travails are published in the Michelin Guide, THE definitive guide to great food and accommodation in Europe.
The Michelin men, not the the little white rubber men, but more suitably attired gentlemen dined with us in Athlone and Gorey over a period of two weeks. They happened to visit both restaurants by coincidence. Both reviewers were very impressed to say the least. What they do then is they return and tell you who they are and then they carry out a ‘forensic’ inspection of the restaurant. They examine the toilets, the kitchens, the refrigeration system, they even got down on their hands and knees to check under the cookers!!
And the result???? We passed with flying colours.
Michelin Guides are very fussy about the publicity they get as they don’t want to be seen to be a commercial enterprise so we are not allowed to advertise explicitly stating that we are a Michelin Rated Restaurant, but nobody mentioned a prohibition on shouting it from the rooftops! So thank you Mr Michelin, you’ve made our 2010!!!
